Thanks for all the replies. I really like the smoke calves. I would love to have some blue roans. My boys say the would like so see anything on the place that had some color. Would it help so post a couple pics of the type of cows I am starting with?
(welcome)
Blue Roans- Sin City is working well with Angus based cows from what I understand , He is clean. Can't gurantee one but good shot.
I am impressed with Sunseekers show calves. Even though he is a TH C his steers and females have been doing well. This will be my first year for his calves.
I am real fan of WHO MADE WHO on sound females. The calves are usually pretty fancy. The replacement heifers make great club mommas.
Heat Wave- he is producing winners. BUT, he calves hard. Or I should say for me he calves hard. His calves are very marketable.
Smokes- There were quiet a few smoke bulls that came out last year- Milkman, Interstate, Great White my suggestion just watch the birthweights on some of your females as some of these sires throw larger calves.
Irish Whiskey is known to cross well with angus based females. His semen is now avaliable at 50/straw but he is a PHAC.
As red said, evaulate the potential to produce carriers and whether you are willing to breed around that or not. Remember, what works for some may not work for you. It seems like trial and error at times. I know a guy that his WMW's are not smaller framed and in fact they are larger framed. Go figure.
You can always come here and ask questions. No question is stupid. Great folks here to help out.
