Please keep those in the wildfires in western Oklahoma in your thoughts and prayers. Fires for the last 2 days that are still burning and winds forcast at 40mph for today.  Cattlemen in these areas have lost cattle, hat, pasture, homes, and fences. With the wind and rugged terrain in these areas and the cedar
Trees fueling the fires, firefighters are
Facing an uphill battle trying
To get a handle on them.

Yes it has to be a hopeless feeling to be in that situation.

Not much information yet on losses. Latest reports from the Rhea fire in Dewey county was 240000 acres. Another fire in Woodward county was 115000 acres. Those fires are in adjoining counties in probably a 50 mile radius.
I talked to a friend in Dewey county yesterday that said he had lost 5 cows, several calves and 95% of his grass and said it could have been worse. We’re waiting to get power lines back up so they could get in to move them. I can’t imagine dealing with the losses. Producers north of us are still recovering from fires last spring. It’s a long process to rebuild from that kind of devastating loss.

I just talked to a friend of mine in Seiling earlier this evening, she and her husband were watching from a hill as fire fighters were trying to save their home. Hay bales across the road from them were on fire as we were talking.  I saw on the news what looked like her Grandpa-in-law's home go up in flames. I haven't been able to get a hold of her since.  My prayers are that all are ok.

It’s been brutal since last Thursday in that area. I am in the east end of the panhandle and we e had wind in the 40 mph range almost every day with humidity at around 5%. I taught at Vici for 9 years and have several good friends in Dewey county. At last report the fire had burned 265,000 acres. Before today homes lost in the Vici area was in the 30’s with more lost today.

I have t been in contact for a few days because I figured they were busy and didn’t need me to distract them. I will try to contact some of them tomorrow. I can’t imagine what has happened and the devastation and destruction these fires have caused.

Can those with contact keep us informed? If they need anything I’m sure our community would be able to get some stuff together to take out. If anyone hears anything keep us updated please. Prayers are going out.
