On pasture at last

A long cold winter and spring they are all out on pasture at last. Here are a couple of pics. We are using Herbourne B Manitoba Gus 13Z, Paintearth Boomer 58Y and Eionmor Piper 23Z. Diamond Applause 18A has bred a couple and Nothern Alphonso 15A will be seeing some clean up duty when Boomer heads back to Gordon Turner Farms.

Glad you like him Mark! We are pretty excited about both him and his calves. I need to get some photos of his calves and a better one of him. His sire is now owned by JIT and Hilltop and I am attaching his photo and one of his dam. As his name suggests he was bred and born in Manitoba at Achesons.

This is a daughter at Acheson's by Birdtail G Gus 1W and out of the dam of our white bull(full sister to 13Z). They are offering pick of their heifer calf crop at the CSA meetings in Manitoba as a fund raiser on June 15th! Love this heifer calf (thumbsup)

Well that varies from year to year and depends where in Canada you are located! Parts of Canada are a lot farther south than say the boundary along Montana/Alberta.

I live straight north of the Montana/ North Dakota state line and am about 30 miles north of the Canada/US border and we have a lot of summer temps of 85-95 F with an occasional heat wave that pushes the temps above 100F but that is not very often. We don't normally get much humidity with the heat, however, we have seemed to have more if it in recent years. I am thinking our weather is changing a little and we are getting more weather in summer like the northern Midwest states. I think it would be a little cooler out in Alberta where okotoks lives, in the summer, than it is here.

On average Regina is 6 deg F warmer than Calgary in July but 13 deg F colder in January. I don't think we are anywhere near average this year!

Diamond Dottie 7B is out of a Prophecy 21P daughter and born Feb 20, photographed June 6.  We have a number of 3/4 sisters to this heifer that are plum awesome.

When you consider his young age and the fact his dam is 15 years old I think he has a lot of potential!

Like the slick coat and good length on 13Z.

Am not partial to white cattle but they are often the standouts.  Currently have a white senior herdsire due to his quality.

I have always believed that a good bull is evident from birth, 57B ticks all the boxes for me.  Good length, good bone and a strong looking loin area.

Keep us all posted to see if I am wrong!

The white calf has more eye appeal to me.  Call it style, balance, whatever you want.  I like the way his head, neck, and shoulder fit together much better.  The white calf appears to me in the picture to be more level from his shoulder back, with the exception of the tailhead which could be just they way he happens to be holding it.  The spotted calf seems to be higher at the shoulder, lower behind the shoulder, then higher again at the hooks, and then lower at the tailhead.  I prefer the rear legs on the white calf and also front leg angle.  The spotted calf appears a little straight on the fronts in the photo.  The white calf looks to have a little more lower quarter and deeper flank.  He also appears more masculine to me.  Hard to tell everything from a one dimentional photo, but if I had to pick one today, it would be the white one.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  I don't mind if you disagree.  Heck, some people even like black ones.
