I have a half dozen shorthorns I need a bull for. They all go back to Double Vision, I also need the bull to be red, or orange(char influenced) but not smoke. I dont want blacks. Also needs to be double clean. My head hurts from looking so thought this may give me some other directions to look at. Also I dont want a PB shorty.

the bull i saw in person this weekend- I would recommend to anyone wanting to produce competitive shorthorn looking steers.  Will have pics off my phone tomorrow.

But I don't think I'll tell you what his name is Frosty...  We don't get along very well.  (argue)

This was the type attitude that got Cut The BS aka KF Acres farms etc etc put on a hiatus. But since you ARE NOT him.....why waste a post being nasty SAVE IT for another some other site.

Frostback,

You all are breeding for terminal products or replacements etc? Do these females have plenty of body? The double vision/stuff lines do well with Vegas, Sin City as well as Sonny. Post a pic or two if you can or just send me a pic or two and I might be able to help you.

I want steers. They have done well with Tiger Woods and Johnny Walker Red. Sin City never has impressed me and Vegas is a carrier of something so he is out and Sonny is too much and I am not a Trump fan, anyway. I dont think I have a photo of any of them. They are moderate to small framed and sound, and have plenty of body, a couple could use some bone. I will look for some photos of calves by them.

that changes gears then. I sent you a PM. Yes, Vegas is a TH C. Sonny has some sons that are not quiet as expensive as the old man.

not very good pictures as I took them with my phone, the side profile was taken at about 50 yards while we were on the 4 wheeler.
You'll get the idea though.

Suit yourself Frosty.

Same old thing, nothing productive to add just rambling. I take you and your "program" so seriously.

if you think this is my bull- you're wrong.  But I did buy 20 sticks of juice on him.  I keep hearing that one of the 'three' big shorthorn breeders in the country have been flushing the piss out of this bull and his sexed heifer semen.  This bull was leased out and ran 80 cows for fall breeding-- he's now with 50 cows with baby calves on them-- before he goes back to the owners.

He's probably one, if not the most highly promoted young Shorthorn sire of the times- I think he's 4?.

He's also got a baby brother coming out, R/W deal sired by Heatwave-- that's supposed to be legit.  Was told this weekend the three owners turned down 40k for him.

The owner/ breeder informed me that anyone wanting to make southern Shorthorn looking steers needs to take this bull- breed him to Black cows- and take those daughters and breed them back to his little brother by HW.  That would create Shorthorn looking calves for that market--

The bull had a baby brother/ son that was posted on here a few months ago now owned by Connell's I believe.

The best baby calves on the place, were siblings/ offspring ET calves-- minus the Angus calves and the Irish Whiskey/ Angus bull and I guess the Crossbred Black Shorthorn steer calf sired by a bull I can't think of right now.

On his top side- is basically Sin City/ Double Stuff/ back to Epinal

The bottom side is Sonny/ Double Leader/ Mt. T

He gets an F in my book-- and it's been recommended to cringe when his calves are born...

But I bought 20 straws on him-- and plan to use it hard for marked up steer calves-- and keeper daughters.

I don't know much about Shorthorns personally, but I have a friend that has a bunch of Double Vision females she uses to raise steers and she has primarily used Jakes Proud Jazz for the past few years. Most of the Shorthorn steers that are winning right now are either Heat Waves or JPJs.  You'd think they'd be too small out of JPJ x DV females but hers aren't.

I dabbled a little in the past with shorthorn bulls x Char-X cows and never could get anything that worked.  Don't know if it would be different reversing the cross or not, but I'd be reluctant to do it.

I used Brandon Horn's red Maine bull Fireman (he's clean) on black cows last year and every single calf was black and white spotted.  I'm guessing if you used him on red cows you'd get a very nice shorthorn pattern that would classify.  I didn't think much of his calves out of our cows early, but every one of them have come on and made good stout females and steers.  I'd suggest calling Brandon and getting his thoughts.  I also wouldn't hesitate to call Kris Black and ask him about suggestions.
