Here is a heifer I have pictured on here couple times before, but finally started halter breaking her and got an updated picture. She is an 9k Gold Key x Arapahoe. 9K Gold Key is an Simx bull from Apex cattle and I have attached a photo of him. The Arapahoe female is a unregistered high% simmental. This heifer goes back to both Who Made Who and Meyer 734, and is hopefully AI'd to Jesse James (will know in about 2 days). What your opinions on her and also can give suggestions for future breeding, breeding wise would either want PB simmy to register calf 50% or clubby. Thanks!

I like her daddy...a LOT! He looks like a cow maker...small framed, big ribbed & long bodied. Arapahoe was a good cow-making bull, too, so your heifer has potential to be a good mama. Type-wise, I'd go the Simmental route and look for a homozygous black baldy bull so I could register the calf as a half blood if I was picking the bull for her. You can register cattle that are less than 50% Simmie as long as the sire is registered with ASA, but you may not be able to show it some places unless you show as commercial or AOB (% Simmie). There are a lot of baldy bulls coming out...the biggest problem I've had is finding one I like that ties together the pedigree, EPDs & type in a homozygous black, purebred package. Check out PRS Blazin Hot...I have a real nice half blood heifer out of him, and those calves come little. I also had a couple of nice Rendition heifers, but he isn't homozygous black OR homoz. polled, and his numbers aren't real strong. A lot of the baldy bulls aren't gonna have great numbers, but there are some out there. I realize a lot of show ring don't care anything about EPDs...I'm just not one of those guys. Built Right is another more proven baldy bull that can make a showy calf...homozygous polled but not homozygous black. But I've used him a little anyway & had good luck. If you don't mind the calf not being registerable as a half blood, look at Longs Shear Pleasure...3/4 blood baldy bull that will throw muscle, style & length, and he puts a nice front on em. You're calf would register as 3/8.

Nice Heifer!  What about Cut Above?

I don't have anything against either Chopper OR Cut Above, and I can count the calves I've seen out of both bulls put together on one hand, but from what I've heard, I wouldn't trust either one em on a heifer first time out of the chute.

She bred right now to Jesse James as a heifer, Chopper, Cut Above or any other bull suggested would be for her 2nd calf

I like Club King, Rendition, but by far I think Fatt Butt (Cut Above) my favorite option so far. Kind of forgot about him when looking at bulls, he is homo black and polled. Plus I think he will add the depth of body she needs, however I would be praying for a heifer!
