This is a July santa gertrudis heifer that my son will be exhibiting this year. We think she is pretty nice and thick and broody but could be a tick longer. Let me know what some of you planeteers think of her.The good and the bad.

i like that square powerful hip on her. she could use a clip job so we can see how short that neck is. also she looks a little weak in the heart imo. . . outlawcattlecompany can give you the most expert opinion on gert cattle. i only showed them in tcca for 2 years

We are good friends with outlaw cattle company and have gone to many shows, sales, etc. with him, he's already told us what he thinks about her. i wouldnt call her short necked by any means its just that we cant get her clipped till we have access to a trim shoot hear in a couple days because she's real spooky about noises. This will be our 5th year showing gerts. Thank you for your opinion. anymore american cattle opinions?

Sure like the power she brings! (clapping) Looks like a easy keeper. I agree she could be a little tight in the heart.
That just may be the way she is standing? Really nice calf IMO. I love the Eared cattle.

I think she is plenty thick for a Gert...I really like the square hip and levelness of her...now this part is just my opinion, others may disagree, but I think she is a lot more stylish than most of the Gerts I see, but I honestly dont see a whole lot of gerts for some reason...I do agree that she is a little tight in the heart, but she is just a July so that could all change...overall I think she is a really nice heifer that you will have a lot of fun with!

sfasu. i agree, she doesnt have that stale look to her that alot gerts have. even in these pictures she seems to have the 'look' so to say that alot of gerts lack. shorty girl- thats her natural color, that deep red. wet or dry its a nice color

IT SURE IS......coming from a bloodline where both her dam and sire are packed FULL of maternal power she should raise a good sized and functional calf. Her dam was an unbelievable milker, this calf weighs 650 at 5 months old which is way more than ive heard some of these clubby cows weaning.Gerts in general make awesome momma cows to me.

Good cattle are good cattle no matter the breed. As breeders of Santa Gertrudis, we strive to produce cattle that are useful for more than just taking a picture of and never seeing again. We don't glue up our cattle to make them look like everything they aren't so people will worship one fancy picture, the one they choose to spend a fortune on semen  because of..what you see is what you get.  Most of us don't have time (or the sanity) to stay up at night worrying about calving problems or the numerous disturbing genetic defects some have to watch for while making breeding decisions. We've come to a crossroads where functionality has met show ring appeal. There are a lot of folks that could learn a lot from us who produce American breed cattle. It's kind of ironic we are almost looked down upon for having short haired cattle? Shame on us for doing it right.

P.S. That quote sounds just like something micah morgan would say.

That is a really nice heifer. Lot's of cow power. A lot of depth, looks very structurally correct, thick quartered, and good bone. I field full of cows like that would definitely be a good thing... There are some things to be picky on as a show heifer like the waste on the neck and maybe length of body, little tight in the heart.

Thank you she has tons of power and is still sound as a cat and i will agree that she could be a little longer but the waste in the neck doesnt bother me because of her being brahman influenced and it shouldnt hurt her to bad in the ring with what all else she has to offer, also a good clip job will make that neck look better , but i wouldnt mind having a couple more just like her either.  (clapping)
