Well, we had our first embryo born last night, and he is a dandy! He is a Built Right, look at his cute face markings  ;D I saw his flushmate sister last weekend, and she is a red with a white face, too cute! I have two more embryo's in the tank, gonna give it another try for a heifer  ;) Not sure of his weight since his mom is a bit protective right now (really, more than a bit - that is why she had the halter on). She only does that for about 1 week, then anyone can touch her calves. I do not want him to get hurt over her trying to protect him from us! Right now my main goal is keeping him WARM, since it is SOOOOO cold!!!
Enjoy.

Great pics!  Built Right x who?

Who owns the red heifer flushmate?

We had a set of twins two years ago, heifers, one was solid black and one was a red baldy.  Never seen anything like it.  Both turned out great.

Have you guys ever shown bulls?  With that bald face calf you have there I think you should give it a whirl.

The dam  is well known in our parts, L202, she herself has won lots at State Fair and District Fair. Her daughter is a Macho who has won tons, then won Missouri State Fair as a cow calf pair this year. She is a Drake Stress Free (Avalanche) x Burns Bull on bottom. This is her first flush, and I bought a set of eggs because I liked the Macho heifer. The owner, Paradeis Cattle, own the cow and red calf. They have a bunch of the embryos coming in the spring. When they flushed the cow, she gave 52 #1 eggs! As a 9 year old!!! Never been flushed before. They are just tapping into that potential, she has had some really great cattle. She is expecting to Dreamcatcher in the Spring, if I remember correctly.
AFA showing bulls, we are green, only done it once. The cow that had the embryo threw a bull as a first calf heifer last year, and we showed him. At the age of 7 months, he won Reserve Champion Simmental Bull at Ozark Empire Fair, a pretty big district fair here in Missouri. He went on to win Champion 4-H bull all Missouri State Fair, and won his division but got beat out by older bulls in the open division. She is a good cow, and a great mother, and when her natural calf did so well my daughter wished we had AI'd her instead of putting an embryo in her. I plan on putting another embryo in her to try for a heifer! Her natural calf can wait a year or two! With only 12 head of cattle, someone has to carry an embryo now and then  ;) I still have some Invasion X Blackfoot embryo's I need to put in, and some Pacesetter x Drake Lilo (the dam of our good cow that wins everything as a cow calf pair, Lilo also had the Grand and Reserve Grand Females at the Ozark Empire Fair last year. Great cow there). I promised I would not buy any more embryo's until I put some in.... yea, right!

I know the feeling.  We have 37 embryos in our tank that we have purchased and we don't have that many cows right now.  I tried to get a commercial breeder to let me sync his cows and put embryos in and I would pay for expenses.  I was going to pay him premium over market price for all embryo calves.  They were going to be responsible for any feed/vet other expenses after the calf is born.  We would settle up with them and take possession of ET calves at weaning.  I thought it was a win/win deal but they passed.

Anyway, let me know what you do with that bull calf, I really like his look and pedigree.  I would also be interested in that red baldy if the other farm sells her.

He's developing very nicely! Congrats!

I really appreciate my cows who are protective of their calves, sure....they make it a pain to tag and weigh (if they let me) but I think it's an admirable trait.

We had a GREAT melt off this week, most days averaged high 60's and 40's at night. It is hard to believe that just last week we were burried in snow!!! Got to love Missouri weather  ;D
We had a calf yesterday morning, and another heifer due today (she is carrying a bull calf so will be late), really nice weather to be calving to  ;)

As far as the bull calf, we are keeping him a bull. He has a great pedigree, good EPD's (just got his papers in the mail today), and looks really good right now as a 60 day old calf! Can not wait to show him this year; this one might make it to the American Royal... our first one! Best money I spent on an embryo to date!

Thanks for all the comments. We just love the way he is looking, can't wait to try for a heifer... two more embryos in the tank!
