All I know is that what type of message does this send to our young people?
That if you're rich enough or skinny enough you'll just get off?
I think MLK32 had the best when she described a cow in heat to Paris getting released!

as a california resident, this is actually commonplace.  there simply isn't enough beds in the jails.  supposedly about 40% of the beds are drug related, 40% illegal aliens and all their crimes which all normal people do to, the rest, actually belong there.  the problem is so bad the governor has tried to send inmates to other states, but the legislature is suing him to keep them here, but they won't build more jails, cause we won't vote for it.  my solution for this is, yes, you must sit in prison for a couple of days to actually see it, rather than just hear about it, but fine the heck out of them for their suspended sentence.  CA is essentially run by the teachers association, and uniformed personnel as far as funding goes.  i also feel drunk driving legislation is out of control.  there is an easy way to go after the really drunk drunk drivers.  this zero tolerance business is unrealistic, and actually is a waste of time.  i am happy the court system processed the matter so quickly, rather than a drawn out, tax dollar costing show trial like scooter libby's.

read this site for my perspective on drunk driving laws.  it is VERY good

Sadly, I somehow think that if this sunburnt, calloused middle aged woman, (ME)........ with out the benefit of manicure, pedicure, hair extensions, liposuction and personal trainer were to be thrown in jail......I bet I would not be released on a medical condition.  (I guess I had better stay out of all the disco's around here and maybe drive my Jaguar a little slower!)  HA HA

it's amazing.  what home depot is saying (and i don't shop there, unless in an emergency), is that with their self checkout policy, is that payment is essentially optional.  of course what this really comes down to, is us citizens sitting on juries, not the lawyers, who decide to reward anyone suing a company for someone getting hurt by an employee stopping them from stealing.  similar to thief who jumps fence, breaks in house etc, gets bitten by dog, or lady purchases hot coffee, spills in lap, since one jury awarded her, mcdonalds settles routinely for $50K in silent settlements with our lottery based illegal system.  it is us that is doing this to us.  wake up.  oh i forgot, it's a shared responsibility world now, not a go it alone mentality.  hmmmm.  pay as you are able, take as you need.

they still play disco cowz?  i knew the midwest was behind about 10 years in music, but that's stretching it. :D

one of my favorite songs when i was driving the tractor when i was a kid was by sheena easton singing about her baby taking the morning train, and that song was old then.    her james bond song for your eyes only is one of my favorite of all time.  lots of range, would like to have seen it sung on idol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

not so fast! Judge is reviewing the case on whether she should have been released. DA also involved in it.
Who is paying for all these court appearances & police patrols & escorts besides the taxpayer?

I dont pretend to know the legal system down here to well but I put the most blame on the judges that let the STUPID lawsuits get into trial. Is it not their job to sort out the frivolous cases. The lawyers only sue because they get rewards, if the judges threw out more of the hot coffee cases there would be less cases as there is no reward for there work.

not only does home depot not arrest thieves, but now this

http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/070613/wal_mart_theft.html?.v=7

Flickinger and other analysts say the increase in theft may be tied to Wal-Mart's highly publicized decision last year to no longer prosecute minor cases of shoplifting in order to focus on organized shoplifting rings.

3 billion in theft.  now that's a number.  perhaps this is just a subsidy.
