We have a yearling heifer that we are going to show in three weeks.  All she is getting feed is hay and she is being jogged a mile each day.  But, she still has pones (sp?).
Any suggestions or tricks to get rid of pones fast?

Thanks!

An old showman once told me to use a rolling pin to flatten them out.  Work the pones twice a day until the show.  Sounds funny, but it worked.

I'm quite familiar with the sort of thing you are talking about, I've never heard the term "Pones" before, we just usually call them fat lumps or sometimes "butt boobs".

hahaha

I have never heard of the rolling pin trick, interesting theory. We just always walked heifers as much as possible and or changed their diet.

Yeah, the hard part was sneaking the rolling pin out of the kitchen without Mom finding out.  ;D  Anyway, I would agree a change of diet and some exercise is in order, but just in case, grab the rolling pin.  I like hard body heifers, even if they don't show as well.

Yes, we have changed the diet, she is down to just hay, no grain.  And she is going for a run/walk for a mile each day.  Just looking for some more tricks.  The rolling pin idea sounds good. Any others?

Liposuction??  Seriously, I've heard of the massage/rolling pin thing.  We've got a heifer that has developed pones so we dumped her out into a 10 acre pasture with a big hill.  We need to have them off by the last week of Sept so hope that will help ours.

Dang, wish I would have know about the rolling pin trick a couple of months ago!!! Could have used it on one of our heifers. Will definitely keep it in mind if we are ever in that position again. We had a huge 1/2 angus 1/2 shorthorn heifer. Weighed 1390 in July born March of 08.
