We are going to start cracking down on "self-promotion" on the main forum.  We have a classifieds section that is completely and everyone is welcome to use it.  I am far more lenient than other sites, because I do want you to be able to do business on steerplanet - however a few people are going too far.

ACCEPTABLE
1.  What do you think of lot 4 in the upcoming Smith Private Treaty Sale.
2.  Check out this article I found (include link back to source)

NOT ACCEPTABLE
1.  Check out my blog or website.
2.  Like me on facebook.
3.  Cattle or any type of classified

CAN BE ACCEPTABLE
1.  A blog post that has information (not promotional)  in it, post the entire post (no teasers), and you can include link back to your site.

somewhat up to forum moderator should be, "i'm working on a website, or video, what do you think" to encourage people.

maybe not.  probably just depends if people can get people to comment on suggestions in the sales forums.

i would like to see a little tightening up of the big show header, maybe move the "advertisement" up and the connect to the upper right so more threads show up when you go to the forum.  maybe make the top one have two ads.  there already is facebook stuff in the top bar, put the find us up there too?

Where would you post "I have a new website" or even " I found a new website" in the classifieds?  What is wrong with the new post up today about "review the first video I made?"  There is a wanted part to the classifieds as well , so does that mean the posts about "where can I find whatever?"  Need to be banished there as well? There are far worse problems to spend time policing  than making sure posts are in the exact right spot. An advertiser complain someone was getting exposure free while they paid for an ad down the side?

I don't have any problems with the posts you mentioned above.

The problem lies in people posting pure commercial or misleading posts.  I get more report to moderators over those posts - then I do anything else.  I have always had this policy in force, but this topic was made as a reminder.

GOOD
Check out photos of my new bull, we are are thinking about having him collected.
What do you think of my steer, he is selling in our fall private treaty sale.
Do anyone know where I can buy livestock tags?

BAD
We are running a special on Monopoly semen this month.
Check out my blog.  Direct link to blog, no informational post in topic.

Yes, bolded part is definitely ok.  99.99% of the stuff posted is not a problem, just a few people taking advantage.

The facebook connect really does a better job than the generic facebook icon link and has no bearing on how fast the site loads.  I am always working on and designing things, so I will definitively take it in consideration.

Around October 2010 is when the cost of running the site has really taken off.  We went from shared hosting, to virtual private server, to a hybrid server (running litespeed php) and with it the cost has definitely went way up.  We are making one more change and in fact doubling the cost to run the site to get with a company that service/reliability is bar none.
