Question for Shortdawg, ELBEE, OH Breeder and the rest of the Shorthorn Gang

Time for a dumb question.  I am thinking of investing in a heifer out of the Augusta Pride cow family.  From a TH standpoint, would there be any skeletons in that pedigree closet????

cowz, everything I could find on her showed up clean for both TH & PHA! Yea!
The horn experts can probably confirm this though.

Thanks!  I did not think so either, but felt like I didnt know some of the older lines very well.  I am also humbled by the pedigree experience we have on this board!!!

Any one else got any comments????

yes, it's best to talk to either showdawg or OH B, they are a lot more up on the horn genetics than I'll ever be!!!

Check the shorthorn web site and see if your heifers dam and sire have been tested. Then pedigree wise look for Deerpark Improver and Outcast for TH and Stinger for PHA - actually why not just have the people test her?

I have a question for the Shorthorn people. I was looking through the Shorthorn catalog for Ohio's Expo. Many of the EPD's were in parenthesises. what does that mean? Gary Bob explained the * symbol to me. But I was just curious about the ( ). this is an example. Some aren't like that.

As far as I know the Augusta Pride family is clean. The sire of the cow Augusta Pride goes back to TPS CORONET LEADER 21st. Very Maternal. Coronet leader grandson is her sire. IF I am not totally wrong, I think that Schrag's and Greenhorns had some Augusta Pride offspring in one of the sales and was listed as TH Free Pedigree. Great maternals with the August Pride Family.

The shorhorn heifer that Josh showed and won all over was an august pride female. Her full sister was the lead in their sale this past fall.

Cowz, I think it would be a wise move to invest in an Augusta Pride female. The heifer in my profile is a Sonny/Augusta Pride 5127. She is a genetic sib to the heifers the Greenhorn's were showing this past season. 5127 and 6127 are full sibs to 3127 which was a champion heifer for Cory Schrag. The 3127's are definitely the most sought after. The Augusta Pride cow family is a very respected cow family in the shorthorn breed. I think most any SH breeder would agree with me on that. E-mail me and I'll send you some pics of mine. As for the TH deal , unless she's bred to a sucpect pedigree I would consider that cow line clean.

Don't have much to add. The only Augusta Pride I'm familiar with was the Royal Trio's. The way I saw it she was better at daughters than sons. Never heard of any TH in the orginal line, but it sure would'nt hurt to ask for a test.

Well, some didn't even have EPD's at all, just a blank chart. Very interesting way of doing things. In the Maines, they put down incomplete.

I really like another family of Shorthorn females, the Orange and Astra cow families. They are great mothers and very maternal. Have you dealt with them much SDawg?
