I was the same way when I was your age......hang in there.....I got so tired of it!

Most of us "older and crankier" folks on the board have families to support, cattle to buy feed and hay for, diesel tanks to fill, property, income, capital gains and estate taxes to fork over.....to spread the wealth....haha.

My point is, be patient with us old codgers.  The ability to even remain in the cattle business and the ability to pass my ranch on to my sons will hinge on the political and economic climate of the next decade.

When you do a 4H project and a local business donates money for buckles, banners, chairs, ribbons and even to purchase your animal at the county or state fair sale, will very well hinge on what occurs in the next week.

It will be over soon, maybe more over than any of us realize.....yikes.

just seems like you guys have been reinforcing the same points the last month about obamas communist ways and all that other stuff. i think we get the point.

on a side note today at school the results of the "one choice vote" thing that channel one does Obama won big from a mock election held by the high schools around the country. it was like 280/50 electoral votes.

I'm also young- to young to vote this round in fact, and I would like to remind you that politics are also what decide what we in the cattle industry can or cannot do. We as cattlemen have a responsibility to be informed about politics as they are what will decide if and what we can do to try and improve our industry. Whether we like it or not, politics have become a very important part of our industry and we are responsible to set a standard in order to make the place we call home a good place to work and live, and in our case farm. Remember that with high fuel prices, fertilizer out the roof, droughts and other factors that are both environmental and political, we only have a chance every 4 years to decide how we are going to try and either help or hurt ourselves. To me this is a big issue that IS very important and I believe that it should be discussed in all areas including a cattle board. Just remember that things of this nature are discussed at every feed store in the US every day. In many ways this is a large feed store where many different people from all areas can come and discuss everything from the newest trends in the cattle industry to yes politics.
Respectfully,
JD

Cowz hit the nail on the head, I just started getting interest in politics when I got out of college and started paying taxes.

I like the feed store analogy!!  I think the world might be a better place if all the government decisions had to pass the "feed store" test before passage!!

Zach,
:)   I think you are taking the whole political posts the wrong way.  If you don't want to read them, then you simply don't pull that post up.  Nobody is forcing you to read them.  There are some posts that do not pertain to me that I don't even read.  I am not trying to be mean to you, some of us on here are very concerned where our country is headed to and who is going to be in charge of running it.  JMO     Lisa

Eh, Actually I am know the history of the US very well and I do have an excellent understanding of how the gov't operates.  But, as a teenager and while in college I chose not to spend my time doing "other" things as opposed to trying to examine exactly the intricacies of each party's plan.

(lol) In which case I'm betting yours would be an elephant? That's just a guess.

Actually I am going politically neutral on the board because I am a moderator.  I do have strong opinions, but in fairness of keeping peace if things do get a little wild and crazy.  ;D

I was kidding Zach, he had a donkey of some sorts on his avatar since he arrived.

Right now I would say the political posts are more relevant to cattle then posts like: e-scrabble, what we are going to be for Halloween, or even who the greatest bull ever was. In these times having legislation that could cripple the cattle industry is not that far fetched. So, being educated about the candidates and their policies should be the most important thing on everybodies mind right now. I admit it isn't much fun to read about but these candidates and their policies will dictate the future direction of the cattle industry and its viability.

I have a challenge for both Zach and Showsteerdlux:

Find out who your state (by district) house representatives and senators are.  Ask your folks who your Senators and Representives in Washington DC are.

Then, go to their website.  If there is not a statement on agricultural issues near and dear to your home area.....then email them and ask.

Politics are not for wall flowers and by standers!   The world is run by those who show up!!!!!

Find out when your local or state cattle organization meets.  Skip school and go!!   You will be met with a whole slate of POLITICAL problems and possible solutions.

If you are interested in the cattle business, you are fooling yourself if you think that politics don't have a say!

Around where I live, if we didn't fight for grazing rights, we would be raising black footed ferrits and prairie dogs.    Have fun!

Channel one is watch by kids....who don't even understand what they are talking about. For the most part...that is in no offense to kids who understand why they are voting for a certain candidate. Because there are a lot! But Obama interacts with young people and flows better with them than McCain does. That poll is EXTREAMLY biased. Probably the most biased poll you can take. And I enjoy reading what people like myself think of these candidates. It affects the club calf world too.
