i tried looking for another thread that adressed this but didnt find one.  I really want to take my old purebred shorthorn heifer (now cow) to show as a cow calf pair but i havnt led her in almost a year.  She was always a little rammy but showed really nice and gentle in the ring.  Now that she is much bigger than she was as a yearling how do i go about rebreaking her to show again without getting hurt.  She doesnt like having the halter on and when i tried to lead her a few months ago she rammed me and took off.  She really is a sweet girl but is just being staunchy for some reason. any advice now that i cant strong arm her into anything?

heres some photos of her last year...

I can't imagine that if you worked with her an hour or so for a few days that she wouldn't be gentle as ever.  Every cow we had was a former Show heifer, and even 12 years later I could halter them in the pasture and lead them to the pens.  So, I say work with her, give her some baths, and whisper sweat nothings in her ear.  I think she will re-break pretty quickly.

Same thing here. Can walk up to any of them throw a halter on and go.

Heck, I pulled my cow out of the pasture and led her around in an attempt to help break her calf, then walked her to the feeder, jumped on her back and we went for a short little ride around the pen...after over a year of not being ridden and minimal leading
