just made arrangements for a flush on a championship level red angus donor, would like to use fullblood MA , looking for maternal mating, I am thinking about Heifer sexed G. Joe, or maybe some other heifer sorted MA, I think BPF may have some I can get... the price is Kinda scary (about 1000 just for the semen) ... any body with experience with Red angus Maintainers?, Maine heifer sexed flushes?... revised today, should have said purebred instead of fullblood... anyone seen any dirty hairy/angus calves, again trying to stay PH clean

Flush her Red Angus sexed semen then you will have a dozen females out her to replicate. Congrats on getting the flush! This is our Foundation Red Angus female we purchased this fall. We roughed her out today.

Feeder.. you have really helped me out by posting that picture... she is a beauty.... how old and weight?... I am really serious about the Maine deal so lets here it from you main guys... which maine bull mated to Feeder's heifer would give the best females for show and mommas, I would want them to be able to raise a great looking heifer or if bred clubby a steer

feeder - really nice heifer - what is her pedigree

jbzdad - your goal is females? do you want them red? I have started breeding all my Maine heifers and some cows to RA sires - I have been really impressed with the females from the matings - I actually think the 50 50 MA X RA is a really good cross

If you want red and you want fullblood you can't go wrong with Cunia - some of the very best females are Angus X Cunia

if you want meternal you defiantely will not be disatisfied with joe... he will make you some serious females to keep in the herd and potentially show.... dirty harry will make them more showy appearing but may not have the maternal potential that i know joe was and yes joe can throw some red ones

that is a great foundation red angus congrats on getting ahold of her

Here is a little secret for raising club calves with RA"s, Find that good Maine you want to make your replacement females, then cross good shorthorn blood into them. Or go the other way and breed the shorthorn first then Maine back. I have had several friends that done this out in Wyoming on a limited number of show type females[RA] They had remarkable success and sold most all the calves to Okla. and Tx. They didn't advertise cause they were considered one of the top RA breeders in the country. They showed some of the steers that were Red and done quite well and the heifers went to a club calf breeder in Okla and TX.

Interesting cross.  The more you think about it the more it makes sense!  The angus to smooth out the package, the maine for the power, and the shorthorn to add the style!

Maternally with calving ease I'd go Gigolo Joe or Majors Moneyman.  I've had TREMENDOUS luck with Money Man and my Joe's are really neat.  I think the Dirty Hairy calves will get to small for ya and will lack the maternal you desire
