Shearing American steers and heifers partially?

What is the reason that the american steers and heifers are sheared in a cut out pattern for? I dont understand why they do this. can anyone inform me as to why this is done?

Its referred to as quartering. I dont recall seeing it done to heifers but on steers it is practiced on show cattle when selling them. Its to give the look of having more shape and bone.  Might also give the hair a slightly different color when slicked to create better lines.  All I know about it  ;)

So do all American influenced cattle need to be clipped that way for sale?
