We just got our show heifers about a week and a half ago.  We have a really nice Sunseeker out of a Strictly Business/Simmental cow.  She is a really stylish heifer and has a few white markings on her.  The rest of her is a brown color.  She has darker colored, almost black roots on her.  Our county fair is the last week of July and our state fair show is the next weekend.  I was wondering if we have enough time to clip her down or get a grill brick and try to get that old dead brown hair to shed out and get the new hair to regrow.  She has the longest hair of the 3 heifers we ahve and they are in a cool room getting washed morning and night.  Any help is greatly appriciated.  Thanks!

I'd get the grill brick after her and see what happens.  I've been able to shed out a heifer in just a couple days with one.  Keeping her in the cool room while you do that though, is going to make it tough.  I'd leave her out of it for a week or so, but still have her under fans.

Frostback's idea is also a great one.  I might do that if you want to keep all her hair for now.

Thats my same problem. Got our new heifer on monday and I don't know if I should just run the flat heads strait down her or try the grill brick.  She wont show until august if shes ready...state fair is in october.

I would get the grill brick out and see how well it works first

Ok, I just started breaking her last night and within 20 mins she had stopped tugging and i was rubbing all over her! And tonight she didnt tug at all and she let me walk her around...so I broke out the brush and went to town getting that baby hair worked...it came right off with just a brush so I am assuming the grill brick will take it right off.

We've always had good luck getting rid of baby  hair and summer hair with a grill brick. Just comb down with the brick intensely and that old hair will be gone. Hope it works for you. Usually takes us a couple sessions for complete results. Good Luck!!!  :)
