Shorthorn Heifer

Here is a shorthorn heifer. She is an SS Lucky x Double Vision.

Really nice heifer. Looks like she's designed to kick up her heels and do some traveling. I like that she appears looser made with good angles.

She is a late March. She has been a big girl since she was born.

I like that she appears to be loose made too.  She has the structure that would allow her to look great even if she was underweight...usually a sign of great structure.

Here is a picture of her mother out in the pasture. As a show heifer she was a 12 time champion including winning the Ohio State Fair Open Show. The heifer calf reminds me a lot of the cow when she was younger...very loose made with the right pieces to grow into.

I liked the heifer when I saw the picture.But,  I really LIKE the momma. Has she been tested ? What kind of cow family is the cow out of?

Yes, the cow has been tested and she is TH Negative!  She goes back to the Fantasy Girl cow family of Alden Farms. The cow is a Double Vision x AKF Monopoly.

  That's great on the TH test! What about PHA? Did you raise the cow?

I know Double Vision is dirty but you can usually tell his blood. They have more bone and hair etc. Nice heifer. Like to see top and rear bet she has the thickness as well. I would't mind having momma in my herd either. Depth of body and rib is great.

What is the TH status of the heifer. I sure hope you knew the TH status of the cow before the breeding decision was made. From the looks of things it was a good choice either way. We were the runner up bidder on Lucky when he sold in the Revival. I told Cory before the sale he was going to be the sleeper of the sale and I think he was. He only sold for $2900 if I remember right but we really didn't need a bull at the time. Like so many others the TH thing took the wind out of his sale. We had one Lucky calf and she looked alot like your calf. Yak haired with a ton of bone and butt.

Yes, I did know the status of the cow before I bred her to a carrier. I really like the Lucky bull. One of my show heifers last year was out of him and she did a lot of winning and she is now a great momma. I have not tested the heifer calf yet and the cow has not been tested for PHA.
