thanks guys!  not sure what we are going to breed to next...the hubs and I are butting heads...I want throw a shorthorn back on them and he is wanting to stick a black bull back on them...we have until fall to get it figured out... (argue)

These calves didnt come out of the typical hardoing stringy Shorthorns that alot of the breed became-they are out of one of the stoutest group of cows Ive seen in pictures-and it would really be a shame to completely erace that influence-because you wont find them like that again.Id say get a relly good blue roan bull-and run them Short plus on both sides.BRAD DAVIS who bought your maine bull HAS HIM-IVE SEEN HIM-and the calves-none of which went over 68 or so pounds.P.S. Id love to use Young Money on one of those females when they get a little older. O0

They look awesome Linnette! It's hard to argue with the value of Shorthorn x Angus cross cattle but you gotta keep a certain percentage of Shorthorn base in there in my opinion.

They look very nice. What about a 3/4 bull to make 5/8 x 3/8.

Those are some pretty nice cattle.  Really like the base width on a few of those heifer calves. I'd personally breed them to a Charolais bull to complete the cycle.  Maybe even a black high stabilized % purebred Simmental would do the trick if you're looking for a black calf crop. 

Breeding 3/4 bulls to half blood cows to arrive at the 5/8 3/8 is what both Brangus and Santa Gertrudis both did.  Their success, though, should be attributed to the fact that they actually stabilized the cross at 5/8 3/8 before offering them as seed stock.
