We have shown this heifer, to date, mostly in  breeding classes (crossbred).  She has stood 1st to third, but a judge last week commented that she should be shown, and would excel as, a market heifer.

She moves well, and no judge has commented negatively on her leg structure, etc.

We will likely show her in the Ohio Cattleman's BEST circuit, and will need to designate her as either a breed or market heifer.

Your thoughts?

I think that she would do well as a market heifer!  I imagine you have probably heard that she looks steery.  To me she really doesn't have the femininity to be shown as a breeding heifer.  I am by no means putting her down because I think that she was born to be a market heifer....and a good one at that!

id say she'd probably win more in the market class....she looks like a tough little market heifer

but if you are wanting to keep her around to have babies, be careful about doing the market thing...i read somewhere someone had been showing their heifer as a market heifer and it won reserve champ and had to go to slaughter...they were wanting to keep and breed her...

this heifer has beat me in class twice already, either way, market or breeding I like her alot. I personally think shes better than the smoke heifer that you got 3rd to at ross. she looks awsome

I agree with the judge, she'd be a tough market heifer to beat.

She's a sharp calf, you should be proud of her.

She looks Great! I would probably show her in a market class, but I have seen a few donors that look like her, and throw some of the best calves at the outfits that own them. In a perfect world, you could show her in both, but make sure she doesn't get to fat.  :D

Much of the difference will come into whether she is going to get big enough framed or not, that is usually our determining factor.  If she is a smaller framed heifer, show her as market.  A smaller framed heifer next fall will get beat by the bigger ones, so if she is going to have the frame to compete next fall then you will be ok on the breeding side.

I like this heifer alot and if she were mine I would show her as a market heifer.  I think that her muscle pattern reads market heifer.  I love all the hair and bone.  Good luck.
