If price and availability were equal, what are your thoughts on Showmaster Grower and Finisher verses Purina Show Chow Fitters Edge and Finishing Touch?

We switched from Showmaster grower to Purina Fitter's Edge about 18 months ago. It has been our experience that easy fleshing heifers will get fat quicker with the Showmaster grower, and stay fresher appearing  with the Fitter's Edge. Both are very good feeds in my opinion--I think it depends somewhat on what type and condition of cattle you are feeding. I would not hesitate to use the Showmaster to develop a steer or a heifer needing more condition.

Both are good feeds, we have fed both of them I personally like the Purina line better.

Both are good feeds it is just a matter of what your calf will eat.  I have some calves that like the Acco better and some that will only eat the show chow.  Good luck.

You took the words right out of my mouth.  That being said, we are feeding Umbarger cut by 1/2 with our mix from the feed mill to try and get a little finish on the heifers while keeping them growing.  It seems to be working really well, and the calves about knock you down to get to the feed.  We were feeding Showmaster, but it was more expensive than what we could get the Umbarger for.

Does anybody else feel like cattle get bored with the same ration after six months or so???  I changed our ration dramatically this week while we investigate the Showmaster/Purina question.  The heifers are going at the new feed like ice cream on a hot after noon.  Last fall when they went on the original ration their consumption seemed good.  Now they seem sick of it and like the change.  We always keep our feed real fresh.

I suppose I would get sick of steak and Ale after two meals a day of it for six months also.

You have to use Showmaster heifer developer on your heifers! Don't use grower on them. I've never had a problem with heifer developer with getting them to fat.
