The very few calves (under 3) that I have seen of his haven't been overly impressive.  I was interested in him because of his outross pedigree.  cHe has a good look, but he doesn't pass on a very smooth look.

Dwyer's had one sell on their sale as lot 7.  Here is a link to a pic of her

Have you seen any calves out of him? I wanted to stick with the red bulls or one that is black will carry red. My simmi is a red baldy. I have bred her shorthorn for some great appendix heifers. Is this bull calving ease?EPDS say yes?
thanks for info

I ordered semen on WS Beef Maker from ABS. I got a rave review from a fellow Simmental breeder that had some spring calves and he has fantastic numbers compared to other red SM bulls.

saw him but in the picture he looks like he needs some more depth of body. Maybe it is just a picture.

Are you specifically wanting a red Simmi outcross bull to Dream On?

Couple people around here have used Ankonian Red Ceaser..

The Dream On's I have seen tend to be smaller framed and slick coated. I am looking to use red simmi as personal choice. No real reason except I like red better than black. The cow has fair amount of hair but would like to keep that going with the sire that I select. Folks have given me some food for thought.

It is really difficult right now to come up with many red bulls that our outcrosses.  Red Caesar is always an option, or you can go more old school like BOZ Redcoat.  There are some decent heterozygous bulls out there.  A non dream on line is Trademark.  He makes some very fancy heifers.  As far as Dream On lines go, Pathfinder (heterozygous) would be an option.  Other red bulls include Winchester and Remington.  I am waiting until next year to see how the Select Sires bull Sundance Kid does.  I am also interested in Grindstone Creek's bull Mr. Amigo, but I haven't seen a calf out of him as of yet.

Sundance Kid caught my attention too, but like you I want to see what he does.

OH Breeder - Triple C Ultimate Force is an option for producing show type cattle, but he's scurred

If you aren't opposed to the DO's...

I'd go with Mr. Amigo if you don't mind using a bull that hasn't been proven.  He's a good one.

I've seen some pretty good Red Label calves too.

We have three bred to Sundance Kid, so I am anxious to see what comes of them.  Ultimate Force is a Shear Force Son, so he should be excellent on heifers.

We have tried Ranch hand and are really happy with the calves.  They come really small so if calving ease is a concern, I would try him.

I first saw him in a photo on our feedlot buyer's website (Power Genetics).  They use himi to produce bulls that they sell through their program.  I've seen a couple there in person that I liked.  If you look at the bull's photo, I don't know why he wouldn't work for a show oriented program also.  I bet he's homozygous black though.

Rob Long, Long SM has a DO son that is red and hairy that I like a bunch. If you get Livestock Plus in the latest issue Rob has a couple pictured that I think he is taking to Denver. The bull's name is Bring It On. Brent

Just adding some more thoughts..

Freedom- Don't care for. He's been around for awhile..not too many calves seen out of him..most likely a reason since he was heavily promoted.. Calves are too course..bad fronts, shoulders etc...

Ranchhand-I loved the bull from his picture but I had a questionable..dead calf out of him. Others came out fine..not great but their ok.. That one made me scared of him though.

Whom I would suggest is Trademark. Not always the best front ends but not bad plus he throws lots of spring of rib and reds and no Dream on in pedigree.

I bred three cows to Trademark this spring, and am patiently waiting!!
I, too, would suggest him.
However, Genex has two bulls that you should really consider.  Top Gun, a Gunner son who had at least 20 progeny at Agribition.  Of all 2008 heifers there were none under 900lbs!  Not to mention TONS of calves in fall production sales up here in canada, and will be many, many bulls in the spring sales too.    They are THICKER than thick, heavy muscled, clean made, very correct and IMPRESSIVE calves!  He can also be used on heifers, which is a huge bonus.  I noticed one or two Ranch Hand calves at Agribition, and they were really nothing great IMO.  Dream On, is beginning to be too heavily used, so I would never use him (also based on some poor reports).
Crocket is also a Genex bull that I would consider.  He is deathly thick as well...and his calves grow VERY well.  He has a stronger BW though, and is not reccomended for heifers.  Both are red bulls.  Both are homo polled, and I think are also Homo red, or a few generations red.  Awesome bulls...would NOT pass them up.

I really like the looks of the bull. My only concern with him is BW. That is one reason i won't use some bulls because of BW. I am not always a believer in EPD's but without knowing much about the bull tha tis one of the things I look at.

As a side note for the RedAngus breeders on the Planet, Bring It On has been and is being used to make very good F-1 females. His calves have a look and good epds. Shawn, if I were you, I would try to contact Rob/Gina about how the calves come. I know that you had some challenges calving last spring, so I don't blame you for needing to know. I have seen the bull and he is for real. Rob does have a partner in the bull that bred quite a few to him naturally the first year that may have more info or info in addition to Rob's. Have a good day all. Brent
