In regards to rumours, I get told some pretty wild stories from time to time. A few years ago, I was considering buying a herd bull when another breeder phoned me to tell me that th bull I was interested in had never passed a semen test and had not settled a single cow in the herd he was being used in. I actually got on a plane and flew to the farm where he was being used, and saw a great set of calves from this bull, all born within 5 weeks. They had semen tested this bull before I got there and he had scored 94% on a breeding soundness exam. I purchased the bull and he has bred well for us. When I collected semen from him, he produced 1032 straws of semen on his first collection day.... not bad for a bull who was reported to not be able to settle a cow or pass a semen test!

Was the other breeder by any chance, either wanting to sell you a bull of his own, or, wanting to buy the said bull?
