Alright so I have been researching and looking at old posts tyring to figure out the best way to get some fat cover and hair on my steers.  There are so many different feed supplements im just confused on what to pick.  I would like to get some fat cover mostly for bloom im not looking to gain tons of weight but he is just a little behind and also need to grow out some hair.  Instead of supplements for the hair I was considering melatonin implants instead? I feed hsc so if that makes a difference i'd like to just hear what everyone has used and how it worked and any supplements they do not recommend.

If you're not looking to add lots of weight I would add barley and power fuel to his diet.  I don't know how far you are from show, but the last couple months try replacing up to 25% of the show chow with barley and it will add a nice finish to him.  Add a little power fuel and you should have your bases covered. Watch the barley because a calf can bloat on it.

As far as hair, I've never done the implant thing but know people who swear by melatonin.  If there is one tool that will help with hair it's a big fan.  Keep the air circulating around the calf and it will help as much as anything.  A good fan or two will drop the temp in a cool barn significantly.  That and chilling the calf and brushing are the real keys to hair growth.  Of course genetics have to be there.

Good Luck.
