Driving home this evening and I had to run these elk off of the road. They are nice to see and they are following the snow up the mountain, but my neighbor found out they don't bounce very well this morning when they ran in front of here on her way to work. She was not hurt but her truck was totaled and the elk dead. Insurance is going to love that.

When I was a kid we would see as many as many as 1000 deer or more in the fields in the spring but now we see more elk than deer. There were between 280 and 300 head in our fields this evening eating up the grass as fast as it can grow.

The mule deer poulation decline is really extreme in Wyoming.  Land management - both public and private - is just more conducive to elk than deer.  Lack of wildfire is supposedly a big deal for loss of the stuff mulies prefer to eat.

Glad your neighbor is ok.  I hit a full grown moo cow one time doing about 80.  Giant water balloon at that speed.  Never saw her in time to even swerve so I didnt lose control.
