We just bouhgt an old state truck, one of the single axel trucks that they use to plow roads, and put sand on the roads with. It is only about 10 year sold and only has 250,000 on it. We are going to try and use it to spread manure with. We talked to the state and they said that they thought it would work. What are your opinions?? think it ill work or not ???

Yeah-  it will work.    We have spread manure with a grain truck with the tail gates taken out.    Raised the box a bit and drove and hoped some giggled out and then raised the box some more, drove again.  It does work in a Jeff Foxworthy kind of way.  When you are all done hauling, go out with a loader and spread any big piles that you may have left when you raise the box to high or hit a big bump and shake a lot out all at once.

If you have 10 or so loads a year, this is not bad, but if you are talking several hundred loads a year, I would think a manure spreader would be worth more.  Also dry and fine powdered manure works better with a dump truck than like wet and clumpy feed rack type.  We all do what we have to.

Happy spreading and have a good one

We tried it today and it worked GREAT!!!!! We also bought the truck with a snow plow, a spreader box, the dump bed, and a sprayer deal to go in the back of it (thumbsup)
