Steel all the way. They might be a lot more heavy but they can take so much more wear and tear from calves than aluminum chutes can. No matter how calm your calf is it can spook and it is nice to have them in somthing that can hold them.

If you're taking it to shows, aluminum.  If you're leaving it at home, steel.  If you ever plan to take it to a show, aluminum.  Everyone in the barn runs the other direction when someone pulls up to unload a steel one.

If you can afford an Aluminum Chute, buy one.  I could never justify the expense when the Ag program could build a Steel chute for $80.  A steel built out of 1" tubing is probably lighter than aluminum.

We have one of each, steel one for the calves first few times in a shoot and aluminum for once they get used to it. The aluminum is more handy for shows by far, much easier to carry around then the metal. We do take both to shows because we usually show 6 calves, and I'm always racing my brother to the aluminum one because it is much easier to work on a calf in. If you have a crazy calf though I would not recommend the aluminum.

Homemade steel one for at home, and an aluminum one for the road is the only way to go IMO.

Steel for the house, definitely aluminum for the road. I like the half chute for the road to be honest, but definitely the steel for the house.

Just depend on what your main purpose is for the chute. If its going to stay home and not travel to shows, I'd go with the steel. If your planning on toting it around to shows then I'd use aluminum. If your planning on going to some shows I'd get the half steel/aluminum. Personally I have the half n half and its still kinda heavy but still durable to handle some uneasy calves. Hope this helps!
