STEER TROUBLE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a steer who has just constant diareah it has gotten to the point to were his ass is just raw i have tred to take of his feed and just give sttaight hay but when he see's me giving my other cattle feed he just goes crazy as if he's starving and im just out of ideas. 

I have tryed just plain hay
I have tryed just steam oats
I have tred giving probias
I have tryed giving LA200


Please any advice at allis helpful please help!!!!!  THANKS FOR LOOKING

have you tried a vet? It might be something that needs attention. He could also become dehydrated.

 Try to worm him and give him Sustain 3 sulfa boluses, 1/300lbs body wt. do that 2 times 3 days apart as a cheap catch all and if he has any signs of coccidia, it should help. Then you need to start him back up from start and stay consistant in  what you are trying B/C taking him off and putting him back on just is going to keep him off feed so to speak. Good luck, there are others that may have better advice. There are some very knowledgeable PPL on this board., but whatever you do be consistant. Brent

I agree with Brent. The boluses work wonders and they are inexpensive. You have to keep up with his care though or you'll never get the problem licked.

try some pepto bismal we use it for scouring calves an clears them up.might have to up the dosage for a big steer

Do what Brent says you can also get a bag of milk replacer and top dress his feed with it most of it has stuff in it to keep calve from scouring I have done this on show calves that always seem to be loose and it works the bolusses are faster but the replacer works over a long time if you have been switching his feed back and forth that much and pumping probias into him his gut may be messed up and take a while to get back on track

I know you said you tried it, but get him off feed completely and just feed him hay and stick with it - prairie hay or some other low protein hay if you can get it.  Use the boluses, but you need to let his stomach reset.  He should be plenty happy with hay.  It will work uinless he has something terribly wrong with his digestive system.  The constant switching and trying other things is the worst thing to do. 

If he flat won't eat hay (which I've never seen), feed him straight beet pulp or some other filler such as cottonseed hulls or even something like Full Tank.  If he gets hungry enough he'll eat it.  He needs very low protein and very low fat right now.  Oats are pretty high on both.

I was also wondering about that. Sure is some nasty stuff (no pun intended) so i wouldn't be on taking a chance if it doesnt clear up soon.

May want to take a fecal sample to your vet.  A lot more cattle suffer from coccidiosis than people realize.  Stress can trigger it or exposure from other animals or facilities.  Your vet should be able to test for this from a fecal sample.  Treatment is not real hard.  Drench him with the recommended dose of Corid for 7 days and be religious about it.  Even with ionophores and a coccidiostat in their feed,  we will treat the show cattle with a drench or in the water about every 60 days or when they have been stressed or exposed.  Even low grade infections can affect performance and appatite.  What ever you try,  stick with one plan long enough to see if it works.  Good Luck! <cowboy>

Johnes was the first thing that popped into my head.  Coccidiosis was my 2nd thought.  BVD was number 3.  My advice is consult a Vet immediately & take a fecal sample.  You may even want to draw some blood for testing.
