Okay I have a heifer that a judge said is stiff in her front end. I know there are supplements out there like in motion and natural stride, but my question to everyone that reads this is what is a nice and cheap alternative to these lovely products? There was a kid in my 4-H club that used some sort of horse joint supplement.

Nothing is cheap in this business  ::) My son has a steer that has the same problem. We gave him Bovaglide....it worked wonders.

Cosequin and GLC 5500 are what we use across the board on all our livestock with soundness issues.  Cosequin is expensive because it is patented and is the one that has the studdies behind it.  A lot of others try and replicate it.  GLC 5500 has the glucosamine molecules you want.  There is a difference in size and the smaller sized molecular structure gets absorbed easier so thus it works better.  Have used these on horses, cows and hogs

We use Adequin and Legend in a shot form.  Both are good for joints..

Nothing is cheap.  Pay for the good stuff as the cheaper ones are trying to replicate the ones that work.  Plan on about 1-2 dollars a day and you need to have them on them for at least 3 weeks to see some quality improvement.

My son's steer has the same problem.  We are going to try Adequan.  We were told to give one injection about a week prior to the show and another 3 days prior.  It costs $50. a dose.  What does the Bovaglide run?

Just be aware you can slow it down.sure, but it's going to get worse and be a problem from here on out. It's not a good spot to be in, I took my ft worth monopoly to the salebarn at860 because he started getting bad after he hit the 700 mark

she's not that bad. the judge at the royal said she walked a little choppy, but you can't really tell. I just wanted to try something for a little while to see if it would help her.

Just a thought.  Talk to your trimmer about what might be the best for her.  Lower heel with a bit longer toe  or even rolling the toe to let the breakover of the stride go a bit easier.  Worth an ask and try the supplements and see.  Best way is to take a video before you start them.  One at 2 weeks and another at 4 weeks.  You can really study them and see if it is helping. Take them all on the same footing and have the same handler.
