Red,
He is a shorthorn. You can see him on cattlevision.com
We are just trying to let our nephue get more involved in his fair steer project. It is kind of a group effort. We are supplying the cows, and my brother in law is going to buy the semen. We have a lot of commercial cows that we don't know much about, so I don't want anything with a TH or PHA carrier, without knowing about the cows, and I am not going to test 80 cows just to breed 5 or so clubby, if that makes sence.
Our nephue has 2 shorthorn steers now which he has begged for ever since he was old enough to show. He always looses interest in them during the winter when the weather is crappy, and then puts in a pretty hard effort once he is out of school for the summer. He went to the cattle battle show a few weeks ago to fit a steer that we sold. When he got home of course he was all gunho again and went out and clipped on his steers, but now I don't think he has touched them since. So I have mixed emotions about this whole deal. He is really enthusiastic about getting a calf, so I guess I am hoping if it is his from birth he will bond with it or something. I told him if he isn't in any trouble (grades or behavior) we would take him to the Ohio Beef Expo so he could do a little bull research. And if he works with his steers amost every day between now and breeding (june) he can pick the cow(s) otherwise I pick the cows
Guess we will see. Anyone have any suggestions :-\
Thanks
fluffer
