Stout show heifer

I have a maine anjou cross show heifer I am looking to get bred. She will end up on the shorter side when she gets older, and will be running with a shorthorn herd in future years so would not mind get shorthorn blood into her but not a have to. What sires would planteers recommend?

If your looking for show cattle, and being a heifer, I would suggest either ALM Chiller or Jake's Proud Jazz. We have had decent success with calving ease on these two bulls. Smaller framed, but getting that first calf on the ground and alive is the main thing... I know there are other bulls out there that might be better on calving ease but I can't speak on experience with those.

JPJ is pretty much the way to go for her first calf, will throw you a moderate, stocky meatball. Will be light weight and and make calving easy. Although the calf will be a better steer prospect than a jr or open show heifer. As he tends to make them a little butchy. On the plus side you will be able to register the calf as a shorthorn plus. So you can continue to breed up when you get them in with your shorthorns.

But then again, wouldnt it be nice to breed up on the maine side. I dont know any bulls, but a good maine is easy to sell.

What do you guys believe would be some of the top maine or maine x bulls to breed with this clubby maine heifer to produce show calves year in and year out?

Dirty Harry. Always come easy and have some look and saleability.  If she is all ready small I think bred to JPJ the calf would be way way to small.

I've always wanted to try CMAC Hard Core. I have heard that his calves aren't always consistent but I have seen some really good ones sired by him. He may be a calving ease option but not sure. I would also recommend anything form K&A Farms. When I have been in Denver, their set of bulls always impress me more than the others. K&A Nautica throws consistently thick, hairy, fancy calves and K&A Spice looks pretty interesting.
As far as Jake's Proud Jazz being bred to already small framed cattle, he doesn't seem to downsize them more but keeps them at a moderate frame. The JPJ's out of smaller frames I have had are ending up about the same size as their momma's and one may be a little bigger. Just my experience...

If you wanna stay maine try GIGOLO JOE ,easy calving ,and will give you a pretty heifercalf ,not so much for steers.

I agree with the Dirty Hairy.  We have two Dirty Hairy calves.  They are not real fancy but they do make great steers as they are very growthy.  My daughter will be showing one of our Dirty Hairy steers at our county fair and possible for the FFA show at our MN State Fair.  We showed him as a prospect calf last summers fair and he had almost a 4 lb daily rate of grain.  Dirty Hairy would be a great starter steer or heifer for a young shower.  Ours is very gentle but they came out of old show heifers so this might have something to do with it.

I saw in the other post she is a Sunseeker...I would look into crimson tide, I've heard he throws some good calves. He also displays a safer bw for heifers.
