hay guys, My old bull hurt himself yesterday and his hock is really swollen, I was woundering if I gave him some bute (sp?) if it would help him out a bit, I know thats what I would use if it was one of my horses but was woundering if it would have the same effect on him. He is not going to kill so any suggestions would be great, I need to get him back up and going asap, he's used alot for not only my heifers but alot around my area. any sug. would help alot. thanks!

You might want to look into using some DMSO to rub on the joints.

If he is that important to your breeding program I would suggest you call your vet. With cyber diagnosis you get what you paid for - people who recommend treating an injury with antibiotics. The extralabel use of bute is frowned upon in cattle - do you have any idea what the withdrawal is? Even if you say he is not going to kill he is considered a food animal (just like the pet goats) - if you are raising food animals you need to use prescription drugs prudently - FYI - the use of DMSO in food animals is illegal. It would probably be nice to get a diagnosis
