Tax on Cattle!!!!!

I do not know many of the details on this, however i do know that it is a real situation. The government is trying to put a yearly tax of something like 83 cents per head on every cow out there!! Their reason behind it is even more absurd, and that is because of the "high levels" of methane gas released by cattle!

Personally i don't see this ever passing, however, if it did i think you will see detrimental drops in the cattle market. Let me know what yall think and if any of u know any of the specifics on this topic please let me know!!

In Missouri I already pay a personal property tax on my livestock...corgis included.  I was shocked when we moved here and found that out.

here in texas, u get a cut on taxes if u have livestock!

we have to pay personal property taxes on pick ups, cars ect.  even our 1990 chevy pick up with 300,000 miles on it lol.  One year the collector knew my daughter had a bottle lamb, we really forgot about it, and she made us add it on there.  Silly stuff for a community with hardly any paved roads!  We even have to cost share gravel for our roads here

Beef check -off every time a cow/calf/bull is sold.  Property tax.  Tax, tax, tax.  Will make all of us question whether or not we want to stay in the business.

Don't get me wrong, I think promoting beef is a good thing, but how many times is a check-off collected on the same animal.  Sort of like a vehicle with sales tax collected every time it sells.

Sort of like tax on tax.

Gidget that is why when we moved from Tennessee back in the 80's we ended up in Kansas. Had the option at the time, pay was the same but taxes were lower and infrastructure was better in Kansas.

But know I hear that they want to charge us for the actual miles we drive since gas tax revenues are down. Argh! Cut spending!! That's what the rest of us are doing.

That wouldn't suprise me at all, when they get the national ID system in place, just think of all the pluses they can do with it.  I'm not sure why you think it wouldn't pass, but I can tell you there are a lot more people that don't own cattle than those that do, I see it passing in a heartbeat.
