I am a little embarrased to say we paid $2500.00 for our Texas Hold'em Steer and our kids are only in their 3rd year of showing.  We also purchased a Hold'em Heifer for $1200.00.  We do have our own commercial herd of primarily Black Angus and have a Black Angus Bull but our children wanted to be a little more competitive at State level so we are giving it a try.  This animal was at seven shows (6 Jackpot) as a prospect steer and his lowest place was Reserve Champion in the Prospect Steer class at the Minnesota State Fair so we have very high hopes for him, but my daughter has also became very attached and said she will have a very hard time sending off to market but she also understands this is what happens.

We are also hoping to get some show calves out of the Hold'em Heifer and we also have a Dr. Who heifer from our last years show season that we bred with Lookout as he was recommended for ease with first calving but hope to get a nice show animal for next calf.

I'm not sure why you would be embarrased, don't let other people determine how you feel about your spending, that isn't much for a competitive steer at the State Fair level.
