Well my youngest son's final fair is over. He took 2 steers and finished, 1 and 3 in the Black Cross division, Champion in the 4H Division and Reserve Grand over all.
He won Senior Showmanship, it came down to him and 2 of his good friends from our club. All 3 boys were doing great took the judge 30 minutes once he got down to the 3 to figure it out. Finally came down to the fact that the steer my sons used for showmanship is a little off on the front (he had a better attitude than the reserve steer) when my son had the halter he hid it (even in market) when they made the boys all switch steers the other boy did not. It could have gone to any of the 3 in my opinion they all worked their hindends off.
The same 3 boys where in the 4H Market Final Drive, just goes to show that showmanship plays a huge part in market.
Beef prices were better this year averaged $3.00, Sheep and Goats $4.50, hogs took a hit @ $2.00. Last year steers were @ 1.75 hogs were @ 3.00.
