Cut the BS said:Since she's your foundation heifer- and she's a shorthorn-- i'm going to assume you are wanting to start breeding purebred shorthorns. I'll give you one bit of advice- strive to show good breeding cattle.. not breed good show cattle. The other thing is, don't be afraid to be different- the shorthorn breed needs a few more like that.
The picture quality- is lacking-- although the heifer still has faults. You need to remember, most shorthorn heifer calves- will not truly look good until they are yearlings- fact of the breed... Those that do look awesome as calves-- most of the time-- won't turn into good cows.
The thing that jumps out at me; as a fault-- is her topline levelness/ hip structure: which is lacking. The other thing- is her substance underneath- see how much hair she has: assuming she has the same on her feet/ legs-- she's lacking in stoutness-- again, this is a Shorthorn thing at this stage of life. If it were me, I might like to pick that tailhead up- especially for a show heifer.
Most of the time, I have found- that some cattle getting pictures taken by amatuers- take a much better picture let loose on a hillside in a natural pose and take the picture-- actually almost all of them.
I think you said something here that is brilliant and insightful..."strive to show good breeding cattle...not to breed good show cattle." I wonder how many people GET that?!!!
