When do you like to sell your calves?
We usually sell our calves around labor day and after.
This year I am just so anxious to sell. I have some good ones and jsut so anxious to get sales under way.
The calves arent yet weaned but is it possible to sell them.
If i decide to sell them now what should the details be in your expierence how does sales work at this stage.
Just lookign for input
Thanks
Andrew

We'll start looking at calves that were born in Jan-March really soon probably, and we usually buy at least one calf pretty early in the game.  Then, we like to kind of wait until the labor day sales to try to pick up a good deal.

We'll start selling our early calves whenever people want to come out and buy them.  We'll keep them until Labor Day or if they're a little younger, we'll keep them until they're weaned.  If we sell a really good one, we will offer to keep the calf through NAILE if the folks would like.

If anyone is in East-Central IL, or West-Central IN, you might as well come on by the farm to see what we have this year!

A lot of the feb-march calves are trading right now.  The traders go around and buy them in the pasture and then pick them up in Aug.

Most of the pasture sales here in Southwest Wisconsin are in September. Some Jan and Feb.calves are sold without bid off. Personally I like to wait  until it starts cooling off,mid september to Nov. Have seen some folks wait until December to sell and they have a lot of success. They spend a little more for feed, but the calves are in great shape with hair.
