Tipton Iowa Heatwave Maine steer?

I thought that a Maine steer in Iowa had to be out of a registered maine bull . But saw that the Champ Maine at Tipton was out of  Heatwave and a Friction cow.Does anyone know for sure or do they not check papers at Tipton. I have a Heatwave steer out of a maine cow but the breeder said the rules wouldn't let him be a Maine in Iowa , so which way is it?

Heatwave is registered with the Maine association now as a % bull. I don't know about iowas rules but all a steer has to be to be papered as a Maine is 25% or a 1/4 and it doesn't matter any more how you come up to the % for registry.

They now call Heatwave 1/4 Maine , who knows on the cow.
