For those of you who have used the Heat Wave x Irish Whiskey son, Trading Favors, what has been your overall experience?  Does he match well with a certain phenotype?  Do his calves possess structural integrity?  Do his calves grow well? Are they good feeders?  Our primary focus is not solely producing maternal type individuals; I do not think Trading Favors would be my top choice to accomplish that feat.    I am considering flushing this Trailblazer x Anchor/Simmental donor to Trading Favors.  I am curious as to what bulls (maternal AND terminal) might be suggested when flushing this cow.

The first picture is of Trading Favors; the second picture is of the donor cow.

Thank you for your input.

IMO, I would not flush anything to a heatwave bloodline if you wanted good maternal traits in your offspring. I'm an Irish Whiskey fan though. G-Luck

I don't know anything about the bloodlines but I know I like the cow much better than the bull.  If you could breed cows that are similar in proportion that also milk really well, you'd be sittin on a gold mine.

I disagree completely with xbar on this one....

That cow ain't worth flushin, in fact probably not worth your time.  Need to load her up and ship her to my house and I will try to make something of her..... ;)

One that good, you will get good calves probably no matter what you breed her to.

She seems kind of short spined and looks like she may need to be stretched apart. If it's not just the picture then Ali maybe?

Thank you all for your responses ... Limiman12, if I should ever part ways with her, you'll be the first to know.  Barry Farms, I am thinking it must be the way the picture appears, for she is plenty long-spined and elongated.  I do like the Ali suggestion, however.

An idea from left field that I believe would be a great mating is KADABRA

As far as trading favors goes, he has plenty of muscle and bone on both sides of his pedigree with a cool look. If breeding simmi doesn't bother you id say look at chopper or Houston. Both these bulls will add substance of bone which in my opinion Id like to see her stouter boned. They will also add that showring style that we all desire. The kadabra suggestion is interesting although his calves were stout they sometimes were straighter through their pasterns but really made nice cows. As far as unproven sires go I'm very high on the new MAB son , Rodger That, he is wider pinned than his dad while being smothered shouldered.

i personally really like the cow. For maternal, I would love to see her mated to Maximus or Simple Math. For terminal, I think you could go Hollywood on her or kick it old school with Some Heat Seeker. just what i would do and sometimes i like to think out of the box and not go with the super-hyped bulls like MAB and I-80 so that can explain my choices some

I do appreciate the suggestions I am receiving pertaining to maternal and terminal sires to flush this cow.

Thank you for taking the time to view and study the donor in question; she has raised some profitable offspring.  A Heat Wave son was sold out of pasture for a very strong amount; yes, I know that HW would be the obvious, practical answer.  I was simply wondering what others might suggest.

Really impressive cow. As far as terminal cross I would go with Walks Alone. He flat works on cows like that. Hollywood too. Maternal I like Irish Whiskey or Draft Pick blood lines for Maines. Cerveza and her would make some cool females. Chi I like Total Play or Debull both still have daughters getting it done. Simmental you can't go wrong with Meyer 734 or sons of like 3D, Picaso or Whiplash. I think Imprint or Steel Force would work too.

Thank you, Don, for the suggestion of using Kadabra; I do like that idea.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank each of you who have offered sire suggestions when flushing this donor.  I value the ideas, suggestions, and comments from the many credible sources who frequent this site.

Best of luck to all of you in your cattle, family, and personal endeavors.

Like your idea of Heat Seeker for terminal choice. Heat Wave, Monopoly and even Heat Seekers brother All About You who took them up a notch it seems in frame. Lots of new bulls on seen.
What about Whiplash, Dream On, Meyer himself.
I ilke the I-80 calves we have seen and are feeding an I-80 calf now like him bunch. I also like 3C Macho and some Meyer influence as well as Irish Whiskey. If you could get clean females it would make nice replacement females.

Steel force is not a bad choice.
