If they've been kept up, a week will be plenty of time.  If the hooves are real bad, and are going to have to come way down, allow a couple of weeks (also expect to see appetite decrease while those feet are sore)

Do you use a grinder on them or rasp?? What is the best way if you don't have a chute to lay them on their side?

I would give at least 3 weeks just to be safe.. We had ours trimmed a few days ago( trimmed every 60 days) and she is super sore, and has slowed way down on her eating, she is getting better though. Most of the time they are just fine after getting trimmed..better safe than sorry I guess?

You might need a new hoof trimmer. You shouldn't need to trim them every 60 days unless there is a severe problem to correct.  When it come to hoof trimming the old saying "less is more" applies in most cases.  When you are good at it you can trim one then put right on the trailer and go to a show without a problem.
