There is modifications out there, however my fear it would turn into a popularity contest.  Essentially the modification will allow users to decide who is banned by giving negative points.  I don't know if this would accurately reflect if someone was trolling or just an opinion contrary to others.

I took care of a certain member tonight who stepped way over the line tonight.

The best option is still report to moderator, it not only gets sent to me, but all of the moderators.

I am open to ideas.

Something that I have seen lately in the online comment section of newspapers, amazon, espn is a "this comment is hidden because of the low rating".  Essentially users would be able to hide another user's comments by rating the comment.  Enough low ratings and the comment is hidden.

Are there any user controlled troll management tools available?

If any of you follow a message board with your favorite college team through a group like Rivals, there is an ignore feature that allows you to ignore all posts from certain posters. I would recommend something like that so that members can ignore those that they want to.

Perhaps more creative would be if you could hide any posts from trolls whose only goal is to be negative all the time like a pull toy

I have already have it setup to ignore users.

All you need to do is to login into your account, click on Profile and go to "Personal Message Options", type in the username of the person you want to ignore and everytime they post or send you a pm, it is blocked.

It reads, "you are ignoring this user, to view the post click here"

Yeah and if you follow a college, pro sports team you will know the messageboards are a jungle compared to here.  If you are new, you are pretty much hazed until you either leave or stick around long enough for other new people to come along.

done.  lets see if it works.

it works, but it still displays the ignored troll's post saying "ignoring", which i guess is a good compromise.
