Has anyone tried it? Is it for yuppies? I got a big bottle of Absolute vodkie. I cut up fresh strawberries and squeezed them into bottle. I then put in fridge. I think you are sposed to wait 4 weeks. I had a test sip at one week and I think the deal might actually work. Smells like strawberries. Looks pinkish. Kinda cool seeing the strawberries in there. I guess you don't want to sit bottle in sun because of bacteria problems. Even E coli could be a problem from fruit. What about beer anyone made there own.

We do a similar thing with cherries. We make it in mason jars, and when its done the vodka is deep red. It's wicked strong, but it sure is tasty.  I think with the way we do it, you have to turn the jars over every week, and it takes 6-8 weeks. It is basically alcoholic cherries and then the run off from it is a tasty concoction....really good for making cherry pie shots.

My infusion is usually gin but sometimes vodka:  1.5 shot vodka, .5 vermouth, teaspoon of olive juice, pour over ice and shake shake shake.
In a pince I have used a mason jar with lid as a shaker <party>

AJ - i might be in your area in mid may- let me know if you need a second opinion ?

I do this also, but with sugar, sour cherries and vodka, gallon vodka two quarts cherries, and sugar and wait 6 months and it is amazing.

I don't know about the rest of the folks on SP but you guys just made my "Must Visit" list as I travel around the country!!  I better make sure I have a designated driver, though!!

The Norwegian ancestors tried this many, many years ago---they ended up with pickled herring!!!  I've seen a few Norskies that I think maybe had a little too much -- they get a little pie eyed, green gilled, and wobbly in the knees but they usually recover without any noticable mental damage.    Come to think of it--I'm not sure you could tell if there was any mental damage!! Ha, Ha!!

Do you leave the seeds in the cherries? I also wondered about sugar. Does the sugar build up pressure. One liquour store lady told me she had a couple customers that used rasins in gin or vodka and that was an joint pain relief conncoction. Makes sense to me. I think I might try cherries, raspberries, cranberies, in my next tries. Cherry flavor sounds the best though. I assume you have to use glass jars. The feds can have my vodka infusion when they pry it from my dead cold hand. ;D

Oakbar...as I Understand it the immigrants coming over in boats, or at least the sailors, were allowed so many pints of beer aday. They knew that the alcohol would cut down on contaminated drinking supplies. Who said history isn't fun.

Easy way to flavor Vodka I learned from a fellow bar tender. Take Jolly Ranchers and put them in a bottle of Vodka. Put it in the freezer for 24 hours. The ranchers will dissolve in the Vodka. Depends on what flavor you like as to what Jolly Rancher's you use.  The more you use the stronger the flavor.

the cherries don't shrink with sugar, they do have some pressure aj you are right.  I leave the pits in to get the satisfaction of a good burst.  You could try other fruits but I would just stick with pie cherries.
