I agree with you Mark, I have been going up 1/2 lb every 3 days to let his digestive system adjust as he has only been on grain for 2 weeks now. He was a late calve for alot of kids around here as our fairs and shows are in July. But the AI did not take the first time through and it took the second time and the dam went 2 weeks late also because he was a huge calve. I think he will make weight around here with July fairs but I think he would be alot better with later fairs and shows such as down south. We have been working him every day and bumping his feed up, he is gaining quick.
I think he is worth more than the $1,300 escpecially after I get more weight on him, I just would like to see a 4H kid show him and I am not in to taking advantage of kids that are looking for 4H steers. My wife showed 4H steers growing up and now we have a little girl that we are starting to raise our own stock for her when she hits that age and have some other stock to sell. I was actually hoping for a heifer from that AI but we got a steer as we are trying to build up some breeding stock that is AI quilty in the future. So I am also open to possible trades with him if anyone is interested that has a nice heifer calf. I had just bought a nice cow and calf pair that the cow is another full throttle cow and the heifer calf is out of Milk Man that the full throttle cow was AI'd with, I am really excited about that pair.
So I am flexable with him and will be willing to work with a kid that I know will raise him rite. The money I raise from him will be spent on buying a heifer calf, so that is why I am open to trades also. Travel could be an issue if I do a trade but I guess I will cross that bridge when it gets here if I like a trade. I would appreciate anyone passing on the word if anyone knows of a 4H kid looking for an inexpensive steer to show, everyone that has seen him has said he has great potential to be a great steer. I also have some video if anyone is serious in him as he does cover his tracks and is very sound, I will have to send that via e-mail. <cowboy>
