ok, so i am 15 and i live in WI(incase it matters).  I will be showing my first steer in july at a county fair.  But i am interested in possibly doing more larger shows.  I am aquiring a blower and all the other equipment. only problem is i dont live on a farm.  i live in town but pay rent to a guy to let my steer run pasture and for the corn he eats.  What can i do? i really am interested and would love to do it before i go off to college in 3 years.  I also have access to land closer that i might be able to rent to keep some cattle on.  I am getting a shorthorn steer and a all white shorthorn heifer for next years fair.  any ideas?  also what are some of the cost to keeping an animal that size in a confined area?  any info is helpful. ;D

Im in the same exact situation as of now.

This is my first year of showing also and theres alot to learn. Listen to the people who are helping you and if you dont understand something  fully have them help you through it the right way.

For the property situation try to find a friend or make one who shows cattle and knows what their doin and see if it would be alright to work out there with them details could be worked out for the rent, or maybe if your good enough friends theyll just let you keep a couple head out there as long as you take care of them and pay the supply feed and vet bills.

We live in Wisconsin as well.  Where in Wisconsin do you live?  This was the first year we have done multiple shows such as Badger Kick Off and River Falls.  We have met many people who are willing to help and provide advice.  For the amount of time you raise a steer you don't necessarily need a larger area.  It's actually good to keep your steer indoors out of the sun during the day and only allow them out at night when it's cool.  The size isn't as important as keeping the area clean.  Fiinding a good feed mix and ration is a good idea too.  Also there are multiple clinic held through out the year and you really do learn a lot.  Anyway depending on where you are located maybe I could give you a name of someone in your area.
