Knabe, I didn't watch the opening ceremonies just because of the communist and socialist over tones. How many of the kids were make tennis shoe the next day? How about the little girl who was to sing but was pulled because she wasn't cute enough? She just lucky to be alive under China's one child policy.

How many Chinese get into the even venues? How many Americans? Now tell me which country is free?

What I appreciated about the opening ceremonies is the cooperative effort by thousands of individuals, not only by the Chinese people but many others from around the globe. Minus all the technical difficulties, the visuals were awesome and depicted the Chinese culture quite well. I do not think you could get 15,000 people in America to be disciplined enough to be in sync with everyone else like we saw in Beijing (We are too self-consumed)... Not even if they were told them they were going to be made into "tennis shoes" the next day if they did not perform... Well, maybe at a Rodeo would be an exception.

It is nice to see a fellow American win a medal, but it is also nice to see a great athlete win no matter what cultural background or country they are from.

Is anyone else tired of all the gymnastics.  It would be nice of them to show a bigger variety of events.  It seems like there are multiple sets of medals given out for the same events several times over.  I was not much of a fan of the opening ceremonies either.  I was totally suprised to see some of the equestrian events on tv today.

But I stick out with my neon white legs (now there's a pretty picture)!
Do they give medals for Lily White legs?

My kids say that if I went to the beach at night my legs would glow.

Must be residual radiation from the leaky engine core in the saucer! <alien>

Had alot of fun watching some of the more obscure sports this weekend. Mens trampoline, team bad mitten and womens weightlifting all were very entertaining. It just got me wondering how people get started in some of these sports and also how do they find enough experts to judge them. I guess the one thing I know about judges though is they don't have to be right just official.

My daughter who is 10 had really enjoyed the Olympics.  She was watching Dressage and decided she wants to go to the Olympics lol.  I said in what event?  She said showing cattle.  Bless her heart.  She thought since there were horses showing it was like a great big fair.  She was kinda bumbed when I broke the news to her  (lol)

I did not have the privaledge of seeing the opening ceremonies.  I do agree with afhm.  I would be nice to see some of the other events.  It seemed like all they had on was swimming, some gymnastics, and rowing.  Now they have gotten into track and feild at least.  I think there is reining at the Olympics, but I sure as heck never see it!
On another note, the Chinese sure are brave being the host country, and pulling off all the scandles that they are!  There was a little girl (maybe 6-8 years old) who sang in the opening ceremonies.  Apparently they found out afterwords that she was lypsincing.  The origional little girl who was the actual singer of the song was not cute enough.  They found a prettier little girl and made her lipsync~  What a sick bunch of people.  Do you think anybody in the entire world is going to care whether the little girl was not the cutest one they could find?  Once again, what is the world coming to.  Well yes, the Chinese have control over their people, congratulations...but where is it going to get them in the long run?  There have been a few other scandals including a gymnist who has won a medal this year, who is actually 13 or 14.  The athaletes have to be 16 to participate.  Wait until it is all over, then the steroid users will come out from hiding... (lol).
