you zip it around their tail really tight to make them think someone is holding and they will stop swinging it

Another think that they can be used for is if they are really bad for sticking their tail up. If every time you use the show stick to make them drop it, they keep putting it up, it can help because it will numb the tail and so they won't lift it.

Sorry, but it does not make them think someone is holding it, it NUMBS it because it cuts the circulation off the tail! Another PETA and HSUS issue, in my opinion! Not something I am in favor of, but people do it.

Actually, back when plastic zip ties first started being called "tail ties", they were used in "balling the tail".  Back then we wanted the tails up higher (to help make the cattle look taller), so we sorted out a small bunch of hair from the end of the tail and tied it back up to the tail higher up to raise up the bottom of the tail - some used hair, some used pipe cleaners, some used electrical tape, some used "tail ties" - then teased the hair out and built the ball with glue and paint.  It brought the bottom of the tail up several inches higher than the way we do them now (look at the showring pics in the threads about Simmental and Shorthorn bulls of the 80's).  The way we do them now is much easier, more comfortable on the cattle and much more natural looking.
