What age to band

One of our cows had a very large bull calf. Definitely over 100 pd and probably closer to 115. What is the best age to band him? We want him to be mature enough but also trying to keep the size down some so he can be a show steer. Thanks for the help!

we do it as soon as nuts drop

any time from two days on.  we usually do it when we tag.  if you wait until branding time...~3-2 mos old, it seems to set them back some.
