Hi all.  Last summer there was a thread on here regarding the steer show at the Iowa state fair and the reasons the judge gave for the calves he picked.  I don't remember exactly what the comments were but they included how the calf would grade and cutability and the possibility of moving away from the short pudgy calves.  I know Iowa's state fair is still a few weeks away and I was wondering if those comments are holding true?  Is the pendelum swinging back toward a more moderate steer with clean attractive lines and less waste?  I ask because as we all know, "as Iowa goes, so goes the country!"

I heard they were going more retro this year, with huge frames, sraight, straight, straight legs, and shallow flanks. (lol) 57 or 58 inch hip height cattle ought to do well!!! <rock>

Mat Lewis  will judge the show.  It will be interesting to see how a limy breeder will judge the fat steers.  I doubt that it will be like last year.
