What do you like most about Showing Calves

Wondering what people like about showing calves at bigtime shows (and/ or) small cattle shows. What does showing cattle mean to you.

What i actually like the most is getting up early and just working with the calves at home.  I like doing all the work with my calves and getting them ready for the shows.  When i actually get to the shows i enjoy talking cattle with folks I meet, almost more than the actual show.  Showing and working with cattle provides an outlet off all the stress that i have.  For the most part working with them actually calms me down, except for when they dont cooperate.

For me it is the time with family. I enjoy working with kids and have a horrible travel schedule most of the time. I am in a suit through the week and try to be in jeans with the kids as much as I can. Love hard work and the feeling you get from physical labor. It is a good feeling to be tired from. May sound corny to some but mental fatigue is sometimes just as hard to get over. I like to thing I am instilling values in the kids that are rarely seen today by working hard. We dont always win but we have lots of fun.

I love feeding time, just kicking back and watching the calves eat. I also find working with them and seeing what they turn into enjoyable. I love looking threw the bull book or 'cow porn' as a friend of mine calls it and trying to decide which bull to try with whom. It makes me happy when I provide a alternative beef source to my customers who fall in love with our organic  grass fed cattle (note not the show calves) I really enjoy getting in the ring to compete, its just thrilling, you never know what will be there this year, the cattle always change, the farm who may have dominated the year before may be trailing in the back of the class.

The one thing I hate; People who hate you because you go from being the person who's suppose to lose to the one who wins. I hate that about our ring.

I love the work at home.  I could work with the calves all day if I had the choice, it is just so relaxing.  I also love to fit and clip, I would actually probably rather do that than anything else.  The thing I love the most about showing calves though, is just sitting and listening to people talk cattle and tell the classic stories I could listen all day. 

It is just a lot of fun all the way through.

What I like about showing calves is the satisfaction I get after I do well at a show or the fair. I just like to work with them and be with them. They calm me down when I'm stressed or have had a rough day.  I just love to be around them.

The people.  Time with family.  Time with old friends.  Making new friends.  The importance of the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat fades as time passes.  I so look forward to being able to sit down and spend some time with people I don't see often enough.  Of course, I'm happy it has to do with cattle instead of pigs!

I love the friends that you create through showing. Also the cattle give me an excuse to be outside instead of inside cleaning!  (clapping)

Thanks everyone. The best thing i like to do is take care of the animal such as washing feeding breaking the calves etc the most. Second is going to the fair and meeting new people everytime and talking cattle all day, i could do that all day long. And i like going to shows and competeing and also buying show calves. Showing cattle can give you a chance to know how to take care of things and how to have fun on the countryside. Keep the posts coming!

For me, my favorite part is just sitting back and watching a fan blow that long soft hair forward. Just relaxing to sit in a cool barn on a hot day and look at the results of your work. Really satisfying. But, I also love watching next years show prospects being born. Heck, to be honest, I just love it all. I might be what you'd call a cattle addict.

Mine would have to be the competitiveness. I also play basketball on one of the if not the best teams in New Brunswick, and there is not close to as much competition as there is in showing cattle. I am a very competitive person and love to compete with some of my best friends.  (thumbsup)

Mine has always been working with the calves and getting them gentle.  Looking forward to spending time with son and watching him in the ring.  Family time and hanging out with friends and making new ones....
May not supposed to say...but what I don't like is how expensive it is, really feel for the poorer kids and families that don't get to experience it because of all the money it takes. 
(oh yea...although enjoyable it is pretty HARD WORK)
