Alright, so I'm gonna be the bad guy and bad mouth Braunvieh a little bit.

We tried them in the mid 90s crossing them with our SimAngus cows and weren't impressed. Didn't like the color patterns, carcass merit didn't improve, growth wasn't all that impressive and quite a few were goofballs.

I will credit the breed for excellent longevity and fertility. Maybe the best of the Bos Taurus breeds we've tried, but our personal preference was we didn't like the result and stuck with the SimAngus.

That was our personal experience, sorry to be the naysayer. I really do like your heifer though (thumbsup)

They're not Bos Taurus. Someday I may have to try a few also. I think that I could like them. Braunvieh do you ever sell heifers for commercial herd use?

Bos taurus is cattle of European descent. So yes, Braunvieh's are Bos taurus.

Zebu cattle (or cattle from India) fall under the category Bos indicus.

Bos taurus is the species name - historically used for cattle of European descent but so are Simmies and Angus and Maines etc etc etc you said  "Maybe the best of the Bos Taurus breeds we've tried breeding" were you previously breeding  zebus? That was my confusion

"maybe the best of the bos taurus" meaning best of all the European descent breeds we've tried, and a bunch were tried over the years.

We do have Brahman composite cattle, but I wasn't referring to them. Hope that clears it up  ;D

I would think that the "good ole black hided" fiction would hold back the breed some.
