What do you think oh her????

This is my newest investment.  I have had her about 2 months now and have shown her at the VA Beef Expo.  She was the youngest heifer there being an October 2, 2007.  She was in the first class of replacment females ( Crossbreds) for this show.  She placed 3 out of 5 and the two that placed ahead of her were run of the mill charloais with black noses.  He really wanted breeding type heifers and she was just too showy for the judge there that day.  She is out of NPS Outrageous and a Red Hot crossbred cow.  She is registered shorthorn plus and we will be taking her to the Eastern regionals in about a month.  Also their is a jackpot show the week before the eastern regionals at the same fair grounds.  I was debating on showing her crossbred or even market heifer then.  Tell me what you think of her and also if you think crossbred or market heifer for the jackpot show in Maryland on June 14.

You bought her from Custy?  She looks good, she is a market heifer.

Yeah I got her from Custy but she was bred my Mike of MICA Cattle Company in Iowa.  I had bought one form his sale and this one happened to be his too, so we got it worked out to get her out to me with the other heifer.  I couldn't pass her up, I love chrome and I don't think I would ever find another one like her.

I like her but would like to clean up the neck slightly. Other than that she's deep, looks like she's got a good set of wheels & is really wide.  (thumbsup)

Usually I try not to comment on too much about others cattle - especially from pics (as they can be very deceiving) but since we've got another thread going down below on soundness AND you asked for thoughts, here's my observation.  FROM THE PICTURE - I would say she needs to be a market heifer.  She's doesn't appear to be sound enough off her front end.  In the photos she looks to be very straight fronted - especially when you look at the side view.  The giveaway for me is the fact that her knee appears to be set back from the center of the leg.  In an ideal one, if you drop a line from the top of the shoulder down, it should hit the hoof just slightly behind the mid-point.  From this view the line falls in front of the toe.  To be sure I'd have to see her walk and set her foot down but that's what I see in the photo.

Other than that she looks really good - soggy enough with some real shape to her.  I think by going the market route you play to her straights.

Would also like to see her move. She is eye appealing. Nice depth of body. I would put more top in her for a market heifer. I like her profile and looks like she has plenty of quarter. She should be a stand out. (thumbsup)

She is black up at her head and through her neck then on her shoulders is a bit brown.  I think it will change and get darker as she gets older.  I call it a fade out affect, black to brown to white.
